Celebrating MLK Day
For King
18” W x 21” H | Acrylic on canvas | 2023
"For King" is Tae-Sung's contribution to this collection in celebration of MLK Day. The artist chose the "king" penguin to symbolize Martin Luther King Jr.'s spirit and impact. The artist admires the king penguin for holding "both black and white spirits in their body." Their harsh habitat is symbolic of the struggles during the civil rights era, while the colorful king penguin in the foreground celebrates MLK’s leadership that united people of all colors and backgrounds, represented by the animals in the background.
Celebrating Independence Day
Drink the Freedom
45cm W x 53cm H | Acrylic on canvas | 2024
The sense of liberation pursued since birth.
A moment sweeter than a cup of tea.
Something everyone has long sought,
Yet a homeland of the heart forgotten by all.
Freedom.
For that freedom,
To establish a land for it,
To ensure our efforts don't go in vain,
We ignited our souls and built a country for our freedom.
